Dear community,

As we begin a new liturgical year this Advent, we are filled with hope and anticipation — both for the coming of Christ at Christmas and for the mission and growth of DivineOffice.org.

Over the years, your prayers and support have helped us reach hundreds of thousands of faithful around the world, making the Liturgy of the Hours accessible and a true place of prayer for the community. Next year we are taking on new challenges for the greater glory of God.

Plans for the future

We are preparing two major initiatives:

1. Spanish Translation and Audio Recording of the Liturgy of the Hours
   In 2026 we plan to extend the reach of our Divine Office ministry and produce faithful translations and high-quality audio recordings of the full Liturgy of the Hours in Spanish. We don’t strive to be publishers of text, but rather facilitators of Liturgical prayer. Divine Office has already gathered together diverse communities and a growing number of our users speak Spanish as their primary language. We hope that praying in Spanish will be felt both as connecting with one’s cultural and spiritual heritage and a meaningful way to worship and feel part of the public prayer of the Church, Christ’s Mystical Body.
2. Recording the New U.S. Translation
   The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is finalizing a new official English translation of the Liturgy of the Hours. We will make every effort to secure permissions and royalty arrangements in order to prepare for the upcoming translation.

Both of these initiatives will require considerable time, talent, and financial resources. And both will expand our mission to make the official prayer of the Church available in more languages and formats, for a global and growing prayer community.

Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo, Bishop

Commemoration

Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo (1538–1606) was the third Archbishop of Lima and a tireless reformer, missionary, and defender of indigenous peoples in colonial Peru. Though originally a layman and legal scholar, his holiness and integrity led to his appointment as archbishop. He traveled on foot throughout his vast diocese, preached in native languages, reformed the clergy, founded the first seminary in the Americas, and baptized and confirmed hundreds of thousands. A fearless advocate for justice and human dignity, he left a lasting legacy of evangelization and Church reform. He was canonized in 1726 and is patron saint of Peru and Latin American bishops.

through the apostolic work of Saint Turibius
and his unwavering love of truth,
you helped your Church to grow.
May your chosen people continue to grow
in faith and holiness
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

Truth has arisen from the earth, and justice looked down from heaven

Awake, mankind! For your sake God has become man. Awake, you who sleep, rise up from the dead, and Christ will enlighten you. I tell you again: for your sake, God became man.

You would have suffered eternal death, had he not been born in time. Never would you have been freed from sinful flesh, had he not taken on himself the likeness of sinful flesh. You would have suffered everlasting unhappiness, had it not been for this mercy. You would never have returned to life, had he not shared your death. You would have been lost if he had not hastened to your aid. You would have perished, had he not come.

Let us then joyfully celebrate the coming of our salvation and redemption. Let us celebrate the festive day on which he who is the great and eternal day came from the great and endless day of eternity into our own short day of time.

He has become our justice, our sanctification, our redemption, so that, as it is written: Let him who glories glory in the Lord.

Truth, then, has arisen from the earth: Christ who said, I am the Truth, was born of a virgin. And justice looked down from heaven: because believing in this new-born child, man is justified not by himself but by God.

Truth has arisen from the earth: because the Word was made flesh. And justice looked down from heaven: because every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.

Truth has arisen from the earth: flesh from Mary. And justice looked down from heaven: for man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.

Justified by faith, let us be at peace with God: for justice and peace have embraced one another. Through our Lord Jesus Christ: for Truth has arisen from the earth. Through whom we have access to that grace in which we stand, and our boast is in our hope of God’s glory. He does not say: “of our glory,” but of God’s glory: for justice has not proceeded from us but has looked down from heaven. Therefore he who glories, let him glory, not in himself, but in the Lord.

For this reason, when our Lord was born of the Virgin, the message of the angelic voices was: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.

For how could there be peace on earth unless Truth has arisen from the earth, that is, unless Christ, were born of our flesh? And he is our peace who made the two into one: that we might be men of good will, sweetly linked by the bond of unity.

Let us then rejoice in this grace, so that our glorying may bear witness to our good conscience by which we glory, not in ourselves, but in the Lord. That is why Scripture says: He is my glory, the one who lifts up my head. For what greater grace could God have made to dawn on us than to make his only Son become the son of man, so that a son of man might in his turn become the son of God?

Ask if this were merited; ask for its reason, for its justification, and see whether you will find any other answer but sheer grace.

By the rivers of Babylon
there we sat and wept,
remembering Zion;
on the poplars that grew there
we hung up our harps.

For it was there that they asked us,
our captors, for songs,
our oppressors, for joy.
“Sing to us”, they said,
“one of Zion’s songs.”

O how could we sing
the song of the Lord
on alien soil?
If I forget you, Jerusalem,
let my right hand wither!

O let my tongue
cleave to my mouth
if I remember you not,
if I prize not Jerusalem
above all my joys!

Psalm-prayer

Lord, remember your pilgrim Church. We sit weeping at the streams of Babylon. Do not let us be drawn into the current of the passing world, but free us from every evil and raise our thoughts to the heavenly Jerusalem.

Thanksgiving
The king of the earth will bring his glory and honor into the holy city. (Revelation 21:24)

I thank you, Lord, with all my heart,

which excel all we ever knew of you.

READING 2 Peter 3:8b-9

In the Lord’s eyes, one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years are as a day. The Lord does not delay in keeping his promise – though some consider it “delay”. Rather, he shows you generous patience, since he wants none to perish but all to come to repentance.

The soul rejoices in the Lord

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
